About Myself:

Picture of myself, from sometime around mid-2009
My name is Erich, I am a bit of a tech obsessed person who likes to buy new technology as often as possible. I’m the kind of guy who likes to do tweaking to a system and I often overclock/modify most of my stuff. I like Linux and anything to do with open source. I’ve also done a bit of work in Photoshop. I hope that you enjoy reading through the blog, and I hope you check back often.

Also, I love listening to all kinds of music. Just in case you couldn’t tell from the picture.
Some history:

Linux desktop running Compiz Fusion
I’ve been using Linux for about 5 years now. My first distribution was Fedora Core 4 on an old Gateway E-3000 with 128mb of RAM and a Pentium 1 processor. It was slow as a dog but it got me started in the world of Linux, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Just a sample of some of the distributions I’ve tried over the years include Fedora Core, Knoppix, Debian, Damn Small Linux, Dream Linux, Zenwalk, etc.
I tend to get bored of using the same old desktop rather quick, which is probably why I’m always installing a new distribution, but it’s a great way to try out all the different flavors.
I’ve switched back and forth between KDE and GNOME over the years, even using Fluxbox now and then, but I’ve currently settled down with a simple GNOME DE running Compiz-Fusion on both of my Linux machines.

Erich: I have similar interests and liked your site, especially the terminal commands, a few of which were new like “fortune”. I recently discovered “Virtualbox” and have been having a blast trying out different operating systems. I have tried all of the releases of Virtualbox but find that 1.5.6 works best with Ubuntu Hardy Heron. On a 2.2 GHTZ pentium dual, I am now listening to music, processing video, and typing at the same time. Anyway, take care, Jim
I’m extremely happy to know that you enjoy the site. It is people like you who make all of the hard work worth it in the end.
In response to: `And please, if you feel there is some phenomenal distribution I have not yet tried, please inform me.’
A couple of distributions you may be interested in checking out:
– gentoo
– GoboLinux
I run kubuntu right now, because I don’t have time to screw with either other one. GoboLinux looks like it will be very nice once it gets to be a bit more stable; they’ve got a much less painful way of doing package management. Gentoo is still what I use if I’m doing any kind of headless machine (usually a server); it used to be my daily operator (with fluxbox as the WM), but it got old after a while (I like clicking on a PDF and it opening without having spent thirty hours getting it setup to do that).
Erich is Songbird virus and spyware free? I got a new Dell mini laptop and can’t run iTunes for my iPod. I really need a good, safe program. Please be truthful
Yes, Songbird is virus and spyware free. I highly recommend it as an iTunes alternative.
